About Julia
I am a licensed clinical social worker providing psychotherapy for young adults, adults, and couples. I specialize in areas such as identity and self-esteem, life changes and transitions, and parent guidance as well as anxiety, mood, and psychotic disorders. I received my BA in psychology and sociology from Clark University and my MSW from Boston College School of Social Work. My research background includes assistance in the development of community needs assessments with a particular interest in program evaluation and qualitative data analysis.
My work is informed by my clinical education and practice in psychodynamic psychotherapy, including several years of advanced post-graduate training through the Psychotherapy Institute of Back Bay (PIBB) and the Psychodynamic Couple and Family Institute of New England (PCFINE).
My professional background includes a variety of roles in outpatient, educational, and inpatient settings such as my work with teens and young adults on the autism spectrum with ADHD, as well as my training in adult inpatient services at McLean Hospital, specializing in providing comprehensive treatment of bipolar and psychotic disorders. I carry 10 years of experience working with families and parents who are supporting loved ones with developmental disabilities and/or major mental illness.
In addition to my private practice I serve as the associate clinical director for a post-graduate fellowship that offers licensed therapists advanced clinical training in psychodynamic psychotherapy with adults and couples. I enjoy teaching at both the graduate and post-graduate levels, supporting students and fellows in deepening their understanding of psychodynamic theory and practice.
Psychotherapy Services
Phone Consultation
This complimentary 15-minute phone call is an opportunity for both you and I to determine fit, and schedule an initial appointment if applicable. During this call, I may ask questions about your past therapy experiences, diagnoses, and will try to get a sense of your current treatment goals. You may choose to ask about my therapeutic style, areas of specialization, and therapeutic philosophies.
Individual Counseling (16+)
Individual psychotherapy provides a safe and non-judgmental space for you to explore your inner world, work through difficulties, and make meaningful changes in your life. It fosters a collaborative relationship where you and I can work together to achieve personal goals and improve overall mental health and well-being.
Couples Counseling
Couples therapy can tackle a wide range of concerns, such as communication, issues with trust, major life transitions, parenting challenges, and differing life goals. Couples therapy involves regular sessions with both partners present. It provides a structured approach to addressing challenges and improving the overall quality of the relationship. Partners learn skills to manage stress, improve problem-solving, and support each other effectively.

About My Practice
Background
The formation of Tall Trees Psychotherapy, PLLC was inspired by my dedication to fostering personal growth and healing through compassionate, evidence-based therapy tailored to each individual’s unique journey. My approach is rooted in empathy and understanding, ensuring a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Philosophy
I offer a supportive and empathetic space for growth and self-discovery. Whether you’re adjusting to post-college life, managing the demands of parenthood, or seeking balance in your personal and professional life, my goal is to empower you to find clarity and build a fulfilling path forward. With a deep commitment to understanding each individual’s unique path, I prioritize active listening, empathic understanding, and maintaining a non-judgmental stance.
Therapeutic Orientation
My work is informed by my years of clinical education and practice in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Psychodynamic therapy is a highly developed treatment model that helps us to gain perspective on why we are the way we are in an effort to better support us in making long-lasting changes.
Using a developmental and attachment perspective, you can expect our work to include an exploration of early life experiences to better understand their influence on your current perceptions, emotions, and relationships. We may also examine various behavioral and interpersonal patterns and work to strengthen your awareness of external symptomatic manifestations of your struggles while also considering the often unconscious forces at play.
“Trees are the kindest thing I know.
They do no harm, they simply grow.”

Great question! Psychodynamic therapy is a type of talk therapy that focuses on understanding how unconscious thoughts and feelings influence behavior and emotions. Rooted in the theories of Sigmund Freud and further developed by subsequent theorists, psychodynamic therapy emphasizes the role of early life experiences and internal conflicts in shaping current psychological issues.
